BIOTECmarin GmbH is a young innovative biotechnology enterprise, which was founded in 2001, to transfer and develop the results obtained in frame of the Center of Excellence to commercially applicable products. The aim of BIOTECmarin is the development of bioactive compounds and biomaterials from marine organisms, whose immense potential as a source for novel bioactive compounds (lead structures) and enzymes which allow the production of biomaterials (example: biosilica) has not been used so far.

The basic competences of the Center of Excellence and BIOTECmarin GmbH are in the area of marine biotechnology (main focus: biosilica) and the development (and sustainable production) of novel drugs from marine organisms. BIOTECmarin has access to the marine resources and to a large collection of marine organisms (bacteria, fungi etc.). BIOTECmarin has - through its founding members - a very big and unique repertoire of the latest molecular biological, biochemical, biotechnological and chemical-analyti­cal methods. Field of application: oncology, cardiovascular diseases, neuronal diseases, immunology, virology, inflammatory diseases.
